CAd dot Services SETI@HOME Effort.
CAd dot Services have set up several computers to use for distributed computer parallel processing of behalf of the Berkeley University SETI @ HOME project whose statement is:
The mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe.

There is a massive receiving dish that scans for signals in space, these could be any manner, spoken word, repeated audio signals or maybe even using powerful light pulses beamed from other star systems. The Arecibo dish scans the sky downloading radio data being sent from space, most is intefferance but some spikes have been recorded. The project works wonderfuly but due to the size of our solar system (and beyond) it is only possible to scan a small piece of the sky at a time, this has now been rectified to a point in which a seven band receiver (like a signal splitter) was installed to be able to scan seven times as much data in different areas at the time to enable much faster mapping and remapping - The receiver does not just randomly scan the sky but it actually points at nearby stars to listen for data, the signal is split into some two billion channels through the range for each star so not missing a beat..
Even though the systems that run SETI project are very efficient at gathering data they simply do not have the computers available to process it so this is where distributed processing comes in - to get a chunk of data and run this on a range of computers looking for anomalies, thereby making the process of finding an extra terrestrial source much quicker. Of couse with more computers clunking data the process can only get quicker - the project might one day catch up with recently received data rather than that recorded previously..
You can join us by installing the BOINC software and joining our team, the software is completely safe and there are different operating systems catered for. Download and install the software, Select SETI project in programme setup (there are other disributed processing projects) and then the programme will go on to install the client manager and real cool screen saver !. Don't forget to run the programme all the time to maximise processing, you can also set up the amount or processor you would like the client to use if you have an older system, on todays computers the client can run at 100% with no real bother to the user. *Always run and other options in BOINC options.
